From Tupac's ongoing legal reckoning to debates over who 'owns' the narrative of past artists, legacy has shifted from a static artifact to an active site of struggle where proximity, documentation, and legal claims determine narrative control. The deceased become cultural assets subject to competing claims of stewardship.
